AS Mo Willems says, waiting is not easy!
It has been just over a month and a half since the Founding Board of Felix Foundation met, and just over a month since we were officially incorporated with the State of Minnesota. So much has happened in that time, and we still have a few things left to do before we are ready to begin taking donations and distributing funds to families. Our biggest time constraint right now is waiting for the IRS to approve our 501(c) status as a non-profit.
Between incorporation and today, I have been reaching out to NICU partners to set up the groundwork and systems necessary. I am confident that on day 1 of having funds to distribute, we will be ready to do so. It is an exciting feeling to know that soon, Felix Foundation will be helping families. We’ve set up a garage sale fundraiser to take place in Norwood Young America (home to board members Jeremy and Julie Gesinger) June 4-6. We’ve begun making a few announcements on social media to get our name out there; until we are ready to receive and distribute funds, we are remaining relatively quiet on that front.
On April 7, I reflected quite a bit about Felix. April 7 was his original due date, and when Felix was in the NICU, April 7 was our goal date for bringing him home. Creating Felix Foundation, with the focus, energy, and dedication that has gone into it, has been incredibly healing. I feel how deeply those actions have touched me when I imagine Felix’s spirit cheering on everyone involved with Felix Foundation. To everyone who is a part of Felix Foundation, and to all of our current and future partners, thank you. We have so much in front of us as we hold steady in our starting block. Soon, we will have our official nonprofit status, and will charge forward with a smile, a heart full of joy, and a soul dedicated to helping others.
